AIM: To find video footage of crime & bad, crazy, stupid behaviour caught on camera. Note: footage must be interesting, for instance normal shop theft is dull unless the thief resists arrest/runs off or does something stupid.

WHY? For a TV programme that has an anti crime message and looks at how cameras are used in society.

WHERE? Anywhere that has a camera; Shopkeepers are the best place to start, but anyone who is willing to release footage should be considered. Sports centre's, shopping malls, car parks, stadiums, night clubs, restaurants, factories, offices, cameras are everywhere. The knack is to get the various camera owners to realize that a good clip has value and that they should keep it for you. The best sources are places open 24 hours or late like fuel stations, off licences or convenience stores.

WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO? :

• Phone or visit your sources
• If a source does not have any footage tell them it is a long-term project and for them to call you if something happens, leave them a card or piece of paper with your number.
• Follow up local newspaper or TV news stories of robberies etc. that have been caught on camera, keep news clippings for script information or make a note of time/date and place of crime and give us the TV news station info or contact them yourself if outside of the UK
• If you have good police contacts use them to find out if any good clips are coming through the court system and try and find the owner. If a clip is being used as evidence we cannot use it until it has cleared the court system and the appeals system. This can take many months, but is worth waiting as some of the best clips come from this source. But we always need a signed clearance form from the legal owner of the video i.e. the camera owner.

CONTENT: Crime is the main target, but infect anything caught on camera is of interest whether it be humorous, stupid, sexy, violent, a rescue! weirdness even something as stupid as someone falling over!

HOW MUCH?:

• IF A CLIP IS ACCEPTED we will pay to cover the cost of getting a good quality copy of the video made and for posting it to us OR the postage costs because if possible it is best to send the original master tape but it must be by registered post. We will return the tape immediately by registered mail. Don't forget the video must feature a crime seen taking place on camera not the aftermath or imagined event.
• We will also pay £200*** if we use your clip in a programme. It is up to you how much you pay the owner of the clip, if anything, but it is vital that you get a signed clearance form from the legal owner of the clip; we will provide the form for you.

BLURRING: WE BLUR THE FACES OF OFFENDERS AND SECURITY GUARDS. A media lawyer also carefully vets the programmes. If a video clip owner wants us to help trace a criminal [like Crime Watch] then we will not blur the face and we can run an appeal for information ..
